FOR FURNITURE REPAIR & UPHOLSTERY SHOPS

Furniture repair and upholstery jobs, tracked from estimate to delivery

Wobbly chairs, reupholstery and refinishing. Keep the fabric and finish the customer chose on the approved estimate, and post a short update at each stage so long jobs don't go quiet.

Jobs take weeks between estimate and finish, and updates to the customer slip through

How one furniture repair flows

An example of a furniture repair in Repair Karte (the customer and item are made up). The plan for each step is written under it; see pricing.

  1. 1Check-in

Check in the chair for “torn seat, wobbly legs”

Pick the item type and the usual work in a tap, write the symptom, and print a claim tag (PDF on Letter or A4). The customer signs on screen.

Plan: All plans (Free: up to 100 repairs a month) · QR code on the claim tag: Standard and up

  2. 2Estimate

Send a $160.00 estimate for “reupholster seat and reglue joints”

The customer approves it on the repair's status page. On Standard and Pro the estimate is emailed automatically, and a reminder goes out if they haven't answered (after 5 days to start).

Plan: Approval on the status page: all plans · Automatic email and reminders: Standard and up

  3. 3In repair

Add “Waiting for materials (fabric ordered)” to the timeline

The customer can check progress on the repair's status page anytime (from the QR code on their claim tag, or by looking up their phone number). When the parts arrive, move the status on.

Plan: Status page: all plans · QR code on the claim tag: Standard and up

  4. 4Ready

Mark it complete, and the customer is told

A ready-for-pickup email goes out with a link to the status page, where the customer can book a pickup time and pay by card before coming in.

Plan: Email: Standard and up · Card payment (Stripe): Standard and up · Pickup booking: Pro

  5. 5Pickup

Hand it over and record the payment

Record how it was paid (deposits are subtracted automatically). The repair stays on Emily's history, and on the item's history by serial number.

The chair wobbled because the joints had come loose. We reglued and clamped the joints and reupholstered the seat in the fabric you chose. We recommend tightening the screws once a year.

Questions from furniture repair & upholstery shops

How do I keep customers updated on a job that takes weeks?

Add a short line to the timeline at each stage. Customers see it on their status page, so they can check without calling. On Standard and Pro, emails go out automatically when the estimate is ready and when the work is complete.

How do I avoid disagreements about fabric or finish?

Put the fabric, color and finish in the note on the estimate. The customer approves that estimate online, and what they approved stays on the record.

What if I repair a large piece at the customer's home?

You can create the repair without checking an item in. The estimate, approval and completion steps work the same way.
